How readily they will be able to do that will depend on keeping that home adjusted for levels of ability and disability, keeping that home in good repair, having adequate companionship and comfort, and maintaining affordability. Our focus is helping to promote all reasonable avenues for maintaining affordable, safe housing for older adults and the workforce that keeps our community thriving.

Goal 1:  Ensure each community’s Master Plan (NH) or Comprehensive Plan (Maine) directs restructuring of zoning policies, programs, and funding that are geared toward aging well in the community by:

  • Participating in the planning process.
  • Advocating for age-friendly policies to be incorporated in the plan document.
  • Working with local government and appropriate consultants to ensure the vision expressed in the plan document is reflected in municipal regulations, policies and practices.

Goal 2Create wide-spread understanding of each community’s ADU regulations by developing and executing a comprehensive distribution plan for the ADU resource guide and providing presentations that fully explain the guide to relevant community groups such as the White Mountain Builders Association, White Mountain Board of Realtors, and municipalities etc.

Window Dressers

Goal 3: Annually, complete 225 Window Dresser insulation window inserts for homes and municipal buildings and involve 20 volunteers for a workshop in October. Include at least 4 of our towns.

Goal 4: Continue to spread the Stay Warm, Safe and Dry home modification program, coordinated through the Gibson Center but reaching our Age-Friendly towns, to ensure completion of repair projects in homes of seniors to make aging in place safer. Goal 5Promote  support for HomeShare via media, participation in conferences, recruitment of homeowners and help with downsizing.
